Privacy Policy

Effective: April 30, 2026 · Last updated: April 30, 2026

The short version: Trakkr does not require an account, does not track you with cookies, does not run advertising, and does not sell or share your data. The full details are below.

1. Who we are

Trakkr is an independent transit safety tool built for the CUNY AI Innovation Hackathon 2026. We are not affiliated with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the New York Police Department (NYPD), or any other government agency. References to "we," "us," and "our" mean the maintainers of Trakkr.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Address lookups: When you enter an address to check a station, the address is sent to our backend so it can be turned into a map location and matched to the nearest subway station. We do not store these queries with your identity attached.
  • Feedback messages: If you submit the feedback form, your message — and any name and email you optionally provide — is delivered to us through Web3Forms. See "Third-party services" below.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: Like most websites, our backend records standard request metadata (IP address, request timestamp, user-agent string) for short periods, primarily to detect abuse and stabilize the service. These logs are not used to build user profiles.
  • Privacy-respecting analytics: We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to count page views, aggregate device and country data, and measure page-load performance. Both are cookieless — they do not set cross-site cookies, do not build a user profile, and do not share data with advertisers. We do not embed Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other ad-tech tracking scripts.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To return safety, equipment, and live transit information for the station you ask about.
  • To respond to feedback or inquiries you send us through the feedback form.
  • To diagnose technical issues, prevent abuse, and improve model accuracy.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

4. Third-party services

Trakkr relies on a small number of third-party services to function. Each has its own privacy policy, which governs the data they handle on our behalf:

  • Vercel — hosts the Trakkr website. Vercel collects standard request metadata (IP, user-agent, country) for delivery and abuse prevention. We also enable Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, both of which are cookieless and aggregate-only.
  • Mapbox — converts the addresses you type into map coordinates and serves the base map tiles displayed on the dashboard.
  • MTA Open Data & NYPD Open Data — public datasets that power our predictions. We do not send any user-identifying information to these sources.
  • Web3Forms — relays feedback form submissions to our inbox. Your name, email (if provided), and message are processed by Web3Forms in transit.
  • Buy Me a Coffee — optional support widget. Loads only if you click it. Buy Me a Coffee handles any payment information directly; we do not see card details.
  • Cloudflare CDN, Google Fonts, Tailwind CDN — used to deliver page assets. These services may log IP and user-agent.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Trakkr does not set first-party tracking cookies. Some third-party assets (e.g., the Buy Me a Coffee widget if loaded, or font/CDN providers) may set technical cookies in your browser. You can configure your browser to block third-party cookies without losing core Trakkr functionality.

6. Data retention

  • Address queries: Not retained beyond the request itself.
  • Server logs: Retained for up to 30 days, then rotated.
  • Feedback messages: Retained in our email inbox until we manually delete them, typically once an issue is resolved.

7. Children's privacy

Trakkr is a general-audience public information tool. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us through the feedback form and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Because we do not maintain user accounts and do not retain query history with identifiers, we typically have nothing on file that maps to a specific individual. To exercise a right or ask a question, contact us through the feedback page.

9. Security

All Trakkr traffic is served over HTTPS. Feedback form submissions are transmitted to Web3Forms over TLS. We follow reasonable security practices, but no internet service can be guaranteed 100% secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it via the feedback form.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Trakkr evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for a reasonable period.
