The short version: Trakkr is a free, independent transit-information tool built on public data. We are not the MTA, the NYPD, or any other government agency. Use Trakkr as one input among many — never as the sole basis for an emergency or safety decision.
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Trakkr (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. About Trakkr
Trakkr is an independent project that uses publicly available data — including MTA Open Data, NYPD Open Data, and other open datasets — to produce predictive station-level safety and equipment forecasts. It was originally built as a submission for the CUNY AI Innovation Hackathon 2026. Trakkr is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the New York Police Department (NYPD), the City of New York, or any of their subsidiaries.
3. No warranty & nature of predictions
TrakkRecord™ predictions are statistical estimates derived from historical patterns. They describe what is likely based on the data available, not what will definitely occur. Trakkr makes no guarantee about:
- The accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any prediction or live alert.
- The correctness of how Trakkr matches a typed address to the nearest subway station.
- The continuous availability of the Service.
Equipment status, crime hotspot ratings, and live transit alerts can change at any moment. Always verify time-critical information against the official MTA, NYPD, and emergency-service channels before making safety decisions.
4. Not emergency or law-enforcement advice
Trakkr is informational only. It is not a substitute for emergency response, real-time transit advisories, official MTA service alerts, NYPD reporting, or professional advice. In an emergency, call 911. To report a crime in progress on the subway system, contact the NYPD or MTA Police directly.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to harass, defame, or discriminate against any person or group.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive proprietary models, training data, or non-public data.
- Run automated requests at a rate that interferes with the Service for other users (rate limiting may apply).
- Resell, white-label, or commercially redistribute Trakkr predictions without prior written permission.
- Use Trakkr in any way that could be construed as profiling individuals, neighborhoods, or communities for purposes prohibited by law.
6. Data sources & attribution
Trakkr is built on publicly available open data. Key sources include:
- MTA Elevator and Escalator Availability — published by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority via NYC Open Data.
- MTA Hourly Ridership — published by the MTA via NYC Open Data.
- NYPD Transit Crime Records — published by the New York Police Department via NYC Open Data.
- Mapbox — base map tiles and the address-lookup service used by Trakkr.
All third-party data is used in accordance with the licenses and terms set by their respective providers. Trakkr does not claim ownership of upstream data; we publish derived predictions and analyses.
7. Intellectual property
The "Trakkr" name, the "TrakkRecord™" name, this website's design, the predictive model artifacts, and the codebase are the intellectual property of the project maintainers, except where otherwise noted (e.g., open-source dependencies under their original licenses). You may share screenshots and link to Trakkr; bulk scraping or republishing of model output is not permitted without permission.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trakkr and its maintainers are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including but not limited to missed connections, transit delays, equipment outages, personal safety incidents, or relocation decisions. Your sole remedy if you are dissatisfied with the Service is to stop using it.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the maintainers of Trakkr from any claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
10. Termination
We may suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice. We may also restrict access for users who violate these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
13. Contact
Legal questions, takedown requests, or concerns about the Service should be directed through the feedback page with "Other" selected as the type.
